Santo Antão, the island of wild mountains, green valleys and deep canyons. It is a place where time seems to have stood still. Its people lead simple lives and carry on their austere livelihood mainly with agricultural work.

Porto Novo, the small harbour city in southeast corner of the island, is a 50 minute ferry ride away from São Vicente and serves as the exception to the rule. The daily boat connections with the neighbouring island bring life to the 7'000 person large city and have turned it into Santo Antão's social centre.

The centre of town with its main street Avenida Amilcar Cabral can easily be reached by foot in app. 15 minutes. All city amenities such as the post office, banks, supermarkets, small bars and restaurants, plus a fairly vast number of Chinese shops, are located there.

The SANTANTAO ART HOTEL is located on the southern outlet from Porto Novo. The elegant resort hotel is embedded in a 10'000 sqm. garden facility with a fresh water pool and tennis court. The black lava beach, partially sandy and partially stony, are situated right in front of the hotel grounds. Almost all of the rooms dispose of a beautiful view towards the water and up to the breathtaking mountainous backdrop from São Vicente.
