Maio

Maio

The third island in the chain is the eastern desert island of Maio. As opposed to Sal and Boavista, Maio remains a destination still fully ignored by the large tourist currents which – due to its poor transit connections and a more humble hotel infrastructure – will have a hard time adjusting itself to the rhythm of its two northern neighbouring islands. However, this may very well be one of the plus points that Maio offers. Its visitors consist of hardcore individualists and genuine downshifters who consider Maio something of an Eldorado in their search for quiet and seclusion.

Maio

Wide beaches and a mountainous, multifaceted landscapes make Maio an island of stillness - unspectacular and meditative. The hospitality of the inhabitants and their spontaneous will to help are contagious and whoever visits Maio after having visited Sal will quickly notice the difference in mentality between the inhabitants of the two islands.
